1970s

1971

SMI was founded and began serving local businesses in Carrollton, Georgia, with accounting services, batch processing, and data entry. Our first office was in the living room of Bob and Tish Stone’s home.

1973

Began offering automation services to various counties in Georgia.

1978

Partnered with the Department of Family & Children Services in Georgia, enabling counties to provide accounting reports to various funding agencies. This partnership continues today as the comprehensive SMILE Financial Management System.

1980s

1981

Partnered with Georgia to provide Food Stamp benefit issuance services.

1990s

1993

Partnered with Alabama to provide Food Stamp benefit issuance services

1995

Partnered with Montana and Mississippi to provide Food Stamp benefit issuance services.

1999

Developed the Systems and Methods Automated Remittance Technology (SMART™) system and contracted with Missouri and North Carolina to use SMART™ for comprehensive child support collection and disbursement services.

2000s

2001

Partnered with Connecticut to provide comprehensive child support payment processing and disbursement services.

2004

Partnered with Georgia to provide comprehensive child support payment processing services, and with the District of Columbia to provide comprehensive child support payment processing and disbursement services.

2007

Partnered with Colorado to provide comprehensive child support payment processing services and a customer service call center.

2008

Partnered with Massachusetts to provide comprehensive child support payment processing and medical support services.

2009

Partnered with Tennessee to provide comprehensive child support payment processing services and a customer service call center

2010s

2010

Connecticut and Rhode Island joined together to create a regional SDU for child support payment processing, disbursements, and customer service.

2011

Contracted with Idaho for child support payment processing, customer service, and case management, and sub-contracted to provide child support payment processing and disbursements for West Virginia.

2011

Launched the smiONE™ Visa® Prepaid Card program for the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services utilizing the SMILE™ System.

2011

Added the smiONE Card to the North Carolina child support program in April 2011. Launched the smiONE™ Visa® Prepaid Card tribal program with the Modoc Tribe.

2012

Partnered with the Winnebago and Comanche tribes’ child support to implement the smiONE Card program, as well as the state of Oklahoma to provide child support payment processing.

2014

Partnered with the state of Maryland to provide comprehensive child support collection services.

2015

Partnered with the state of Texas to provide child support payment processing and the smiONE Card program.

2015

Implemented the first web portal for Georgia Department of Family and Children Services employee and vendor communities to access detailed payment information and tax forms via the SMILE System.

2016

Contracted with the state of Florida to provide child support payment processing and the smiONE card program.

2019

Contracted with the state of West Virginia to provide child support payment processing and the smiONE Card program.

2019

Transitioned the state of Ohio to the SMI SMART™ and smiONE Card solutions

2019

Added the smiONE Card program to Colorado.

Transitioned the state of North Dakota to the smiONE Card solution.

Contracted to provide smiONE™ Visa® Prepaid Card services to the California In-Home Supportive Service providers.
