Bob and Tish Stone
Founder and Chairman of the Board
In 1971, SMI founder and Chairman of the board, Bob Stone, built Systems & Methods, Inc., to provide technological solutions to government agencies. Bob led the company as Chief Executive Officer for over 30 years before passing the torch to the second generation of family ownership.
Bob Stone instilled many values in his family and his family business including the value of going the extra mile. Bob actively participates in the growth and direction of the organization, mentoring the second and third generations with his entrepreneurial spirit. Bob serves on the Boards of Directors of many companies and is active in numerous civic organizations. He has received many awards of recognition for his contributions to his work and community.
As a member of the Board of Directors, Tish is actively involved in the financial stability and growth of the family owned business. She served SMI in an executive leadership role from the inception of the company until overall management of the company passed from she and Bob to their children.. Tish is actively involved in the community and participates on many civic boards throughout the state.

In addition to earning an Executive MBA from the nationally acclaimed Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University, Joe Stone has amassed a vast bank of personal experience from working within each of SMI’s divisions. A true visionary leader with a collaborative spirit and a passion for growth and innovation, Joe thrives on providing superior technological solutions to meet the needs of the health and human resources community, and is committed to continuing his father’s legacy of honesty, hard work and transparency in founding the company.

Bringing to the table more than 25 years of proven experience in overseeing company financial operations, Bill Stone is a results-oriented leader who is known for proactively identifying and solving problems, maximizing productivity, controlling costs, and setting the course with strategic financial planning. Bill also leads the way in recruiting and retaining the best possible employees for SMI in order to preserve our ability to deliver the highest quality services to our customers.
Chief Technology Officer
With a strong background in engineering and many years of proven project management experience, Bart Stone’s ultimate goal as our CTO is to create and deliver technology solutions that are individually suited to meet the needs of each client most effectively. Not only does Bart possess extensive experience in planning, developing and implementing effective information solutions, but he also has the ability to bridge the gap between professionals with technical and non-technical backgrounds, enabling clear lines of communication throughout the delivery chain while equipping our customers with the cutting-edge solutions that make their jobs easier.
Chief Operating Officer
A strong “hands-on” manager with a proven track record of success, Lou Hall has more than 35 years’ experience in operations and project management within the health and human resources community, with the past 14 years spent focusing on SDU operations. Bringing an innovative approach to addressing the needs of children and families through technology solutions, Lou has managed local child support offices, lead SMI’s Child Support Services Division, and now oversees all aspects of SMI operations. This experience gives her an unparalleled level of subject matter expertise in the human resources space as she combines system functionality with individual program needs to provide the best solutions for each of our state partners.\
Chief Marketing Officer
A highly motivated professional with leadership, management, financial and human resources experience, Karen Middlebrooks earned her B.S. in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, coupled with professional Certifications in Finance, Marketing and Organizational Psychology. A results-oriented leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, Karen is known for her ability to facilitate innovative solutions in the ever-changing human resources community, as well as for her ability to assimilate customer feedback to ensure SMI solutions are in alignment with their needs.
